BCCMA Nominations – Single of the Year and Video of the Year
“Mountain Child is an anthem for the truly wild at heart”
After evacuating the Fort McMurray wildfires in 2016, Becca and her dad Kenny Hess (BC Country Music Hall of Fame member) wrote this song. Growing up in the mountains surrounding the Fraser Valley in BC, Becca returned home to film the music video and perform it live at the Rockin’ River Music Festival.

Mountain Child
City skylines they hurt my eyes
Give me moonlight on the pines
That black top highway ain’t goin my way
It’s headed toward an early grave
Give me a meadow with wild horses
You can keep rodeo drive
Forged in fire
Bathed by the river
I was born a mountain child
Mother Nature
Don’t cast out sinners
So in the mountain I run wild
I run wild
Keep your castles you call a home
They’re just prisons for the soul
I need to be out here among sticks and stones
In this palace no one owns
Let your possessions keep you warm
I’ll take my chances with the cold
Forged in fire
Bathed by the river
I was born a mountain child
Mother Nature
Don’t cast out sinners
So in the mountain I run wild
I run wild
Sometimes being me ain’t what it it should be
But it sure feels good being free
Forged in fire
Bathed by the river
I was born a mountain child
Mother Nature
Don’t cast out sinners
So in the mountain I run wild
I run wild
I run run run run wild
