July 22nd, 2023 —- for immediate release:
The 2023 Fraser Valley Music Awards were held in Jubilee Park in Abbotsford, BC on Thursday night. The FVMAs honour local artists each year for their achievements in the music industry. This year Becca was named Country Artist of the Year by the award committee and landed in the Top 5 in the Fan’s Choice vote. Becca was honoured to receive a special recognition award, for Excellence by an Indigenous Artist.
These accolades come after a record year for Becca, independently releasing three singles, including “Love You Back” featuring Canadian country music legend George Canyon, which earned her first Top 10 on the Indigenous Music Countdown. “Love You Back” debuted on Sirius XM Country, where it is still in rotation more than a year later. Becca was listed as a Top 50 Artist on Sirius XM in August of 2022.
Becca’s spring 2022 single “It Ain’t Love Yet” reached #2 on the indie charts and the accompanying music video found a home among the LGBTQ2IA+ community.
November of 2022 saw a new self-penned single from Becca, a dance-y Christmas song “Bring Me Love” which rounded out the theme for 2022. “Bring Me Love” was well received by Spotify’s editorial playlist creators and hit the Top 10 on the indie charts.
Becca performed on some incredible stages over the last year, including the Rockin’ River Music Fest main stage opening for Tim McGraw, Randy Houser, Tyler Joe Miller and CAM. She opened for George Canyon at the Fort McMurray Treaty Days festival and headlined a hometown show to thousands of Canada Day fans at Rotary Stadium in Abbotsford, BC.
“I am so grateful to be a 3x winner at the Fraser Valley Music Awards! I am lucky to be able to make music and I work hard so that I can hopefully do this for a long time to come. Support like this goes such a long way and I appreciate everyone at the FVMAs and CIVL radio for uplifting local musicians like myself. Thank you!” – Becca Hess.
Next up for Becca is a brand new single she wrote and is releasing independently to Canadian radio on August 4th, titled “I Don’t Need You Anymore” – you can pre-save it here: Pre-Save “I Don’t Need You Anymore”
